(题目:古巴比伦美索不达)    Archeologist Nancy and I went exploring in Iraq, where ancient Mesopotamia once existed, hoping to discover more remains and artifacts of ancient Mesopotamia. It was a quite breezy day and it was also perfect for swimming, but Nancy suggested that we should go scuba-diving for any ancient objects. I was doubtful at first, but somehow she persuaded me to go along. I decided that we go scuba-diving in the Euphrates River because it was nearest to us. In the beginning, we were having no luck, but Nancy pointed to a small brown thing in the soil. It was pretty inconspicuous because it was mostly in the soil. We swam farther down and retrieved it from its snug position. It was a basket!
It was clearly the stable food supply in the civilization. Nancy and I predicted that a woman from ancient Mesopotamia time dropped it while she was getting water for uses such as drinking water, buildings, watering plants and crops, and many other uses. Mesopotamia, the land between two rivers is very important because the people would have lots of water to do lots of things. There would never be a shortage of water for the people of ancient Mesopotamia.
Another one of our adventures was when we were in Iraq, in the marketplace looking for artifacts in the shops. We went to a clothing shop and looked around at the beautiful pieces of clothing that were on sale. As we were examining the pieces of clothing in our hands, a little piece of weaving stuck out. I called for Nancy to come and see this. It was odd and old, with dull colors. It looked familiar to the website that showed ancient Mesopotamia clothing and weaving. Wow! It was from Mesopotamia!!! Nancy and I were so surprised that we asked to purchase this fine item almost immediately. The woman who was the shop keeper of the clothing shop denied our request.
“Such a fine item such as this weaving from ancient Mesopotamia is priceless,” the woman said.
Nancy and I were so mad we did something that was evil. It was not the right thing to do and we both knew it. Still...why does she need it anyways? She’s not even an archeologist! We both regretted what we did, which was stealing the weaving. One of us was distracting her, which was Archeologist Nancy. Then, quickly and quietly I put my hand over the rough surface of the weaving and snatched it off the counter. I put it into my bag and swiftly walked away with Nancy catching up behind me, leaving the woman with a puzzled _expression on her face. We were very disappointed in ourselves after we stole the artifact.
Archeologist Nancy and I were still wondering around in Iraq, as you know that was where ancient Mesopotamia once was. We were in a village looking at people’s houses, wondering if any of them own any Mesopotamia artifacts.
“My friend told me about this hunter who lived in this village,” Nancy told me.
“Oh, I never knew that! So, do you want to check it out?” I asked.
“Sure! We might find an important artifact there!”
So, we set off along the streets arriving at the house of the hunter. Nancy rang the doorbell…once…twice….
“Hello Nancy! Your friend Jess told me about you and your friend. Oh! Who’s this? This must be the famous Cathy,” the hunter said.
“Nice to meet you,” I said politely.
“Is it all right if we come in and sit down for a while?” Nancy asked.
“Sure, sure anyone who’s friends with Jess is welcome here!” the hunter exclaimed.
Nancy and I entered the house with awe on our faces. There were guns and bows all over the place. There was also ammo with arrows in them.
“What an awesome place this is!” Nancy exclaimed.
“Thank you, thank you,” the hunter said.
“Mind if we look around?” I asked.
“Sure, and while you’re at it I’ll be in the kitchen fixing you some drinks,” said the hunter.
“Thanks, that’s very kind of you,” said Nancy.
While the hunter was away in the kitchen fixing us some drinks, Nancy and I looked at the walls with the many bows and guns of all sorts and variety.
“Hey! Cathy! Look at this!” Nancy said with excitement on her face.
“What? Oh…………” I said, but I couldn’t finish my sentence because of the amazing discovery.
“A BOW FROM ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA!!!” Nancy cried.
“Wow!! Hey hunter? Can you come here for a second?” I asked.
“Sure thing, I haven’t finished your drinks yet,” he murmured.
“That’s okay we’ll be leaving soon anyway,” Nancy said.
“Can you tell us where you got this?” I asked.
“Oh, I was hunting one day and in this ditch I found this bow, I also found this arrow. I’m not sure what these things are, but you guys can have it,” he said and handed the bow and arrow over to Nancy, who had a delighted _expression on here face.
“You really mean it?!?!” I cried.
“Yeah, no problem,” he said.
“THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH DEAR HUNTER!” cried Nancy.
Nancy and I predicted that the weaving and bow and arrow were the specialization of labor in the civilization. We also predicted that a woman did the weaving and a man did the hunting with the bow and arrow. This specialization of labor is important because if people didn’t do different things, lots of people would only be doing one job, and they wouldn’t really be accomplishing anything.
